Go Green!  Folks in Emmitsburg are sharing ideas and encouraging one another to move in the right direction – the Green direction! Organized by the Emmitsburg Business and Professional Association (EBPA), the upcoming Green Living Forum at 7 pm on Wednesday evening, September 26th at the Town offices, provides an opportunity for area citizens to learn about new and old strategies to conserve and protect the environment and enhance our quality of life.

Business, church, nonprofit, university and political leaders will share ideas and strategies to address important local concerns.  Beginning with a welcome by Mayor Jim Hoover, Jan Gardner and David Gray, Frederick County Commissioners, will discuss waste management and recycling.  Elizabeth Prongas of the New Forest Society will share the nonprofit’s approach to adding native trees and shrubs to the landscape for improved air and water quality.  Kay Schultz will discuss ways to lower human impacts on the watershed.  Dr. Jeff Simmons of Mt. Saint Mary’s University will share some early water monitoring results on Tom’s Creek.  Pastor Jon Greenstone will outline energy conservation strategies and alternative energy sources.  A discussion will follow.

The Emmitsburg Business and Professional Association will be giving compact fluorescent light bulbs and cloth shopping bags to participants at the Forum. fluorescent light bulbs
