MCWA partner, the Audubon Society of Central Maryland has a variety of Nature Walks planned for the year. You're sure to find one or more to fit your interests and schedule. These walks are designed to introduce you to the great resources of the two Audubon Sanctuaries, near the towns of Mount Airy and New Market, Maryland. Members welcome and encourage the participation of anyone who is interested in exploring and learning more about nature. All of the walks are appropriate for the whole family.
The Nature Walk series got off to a great start with September's Butterfly walk, October's Fall Migration walk, November's Late Fall Migration walk and January’s Winter Wildlife walk. Even with frigid air, snow and frozen ground, wildlife is still out and about and interesting to observe, if you know where to look. (Hint: we can help.) Those who braved the frigid January temperatures were rewarded with a siting of a pileated woodpecker among other critters.
Bluebirds are already active in our area, and we're sure to see some during our February outing at the Fred Archibald Sanctuary off of Boyers Mill Road! Come out and share the fun! Be sure to dress warmly, and bring binoculars along if you have them!
ASCM Member Bob Schaeffer will lead this walk. Bob is a longtime ASCM member and volunteer and he's looking forward to sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with Nature Walk participants. For more information, you can send an email to Bob.
