OURCOMMONWEALTH is proud to partner with local businesses and organizations to present the 2nd annual IMAGINE! Frederick Film Series, a free community education program that will offer residents the venue to learn and discuss actions to move our community towards economic, environmental and social sustainability.

“Working towards a more sustainable Frederick County requires initiative and leadership from the entire community. The IMAGINE! Frederick film series is an opportunity to bring together a diversity of perspectives to discuss complex issues, find consensus and identify solutions.”  Hilari Varnadore, Director, Frederick County Office of Environmental Sustainability.

As Frederick residents take a close at our quality of life both now and for future generations, there is a growing consensus that a sustainable community should be our vision and is within our reach. We at OURCOMMONWEALTH are working together with other citizen groups to understand our challenges and find ways to address them.

SPRING 2011 FILMS

February  7, 2011  7:00-9:00 PM
A CRUDE AWAKENING:  THE OIL CRASH “This film tells the story of how our civilization’s addiction to oil puts it on a collision course with geology. Compelling, intelligent, and highly entertaining, the film visits with the world’s top experts and comes to a startling, but logical conclusion – our industrial society, built on cheap and readily available oil, must be completely re-imagined and overhauled.”

March  28, 2010   7:00-9:00 PM
A CHEMICAL REACTIONThis award-winning documentary film is a heart-warming, inspirational, human-interest story about the origin of the natural lawn care movement in Canada and the U.S. ”

April  11, 2011    7:00-9:00 PM
A COMMUNITY OF GARDENERS (tentative) Through the voices of young people, senior citizens, immigrants, garden volunteers and educators, the film will explore the vital role of seven urban community gardens, not only as sources of fresh, nutritious food, but as outdoor classrooms, places of healing, centers of social interaction, and oases of beauty and calm in inner-city neighborhoods. ”

Location:  Maryland Ensemble Theater, 31 W Patrick St, downtown Frederick MD

Each film screening will be followed by a conversation that engages us in creative thinking and introduces those in the community who are doing things that make a difference. All screenings are hosted by the Maryland Ensemble Theater at 31 W. Patrick Street, downtown Frederick. There is no charge for admission, and there will be drinks and snacks available for purchase from the MET staff.
